About Us
The Centre
The Wellcome Trust Centre for Stem Cell Research opened in 2007. Core funding from the Wellcome Trust and the Medical Research Council provides the facilities and resouces for outstanding scientists to undertake ground-breaking research in fundamental stem cell scient. Centre Investigators are members of the Cambridge Stem Cell Initiative.

Our Aims
- To make fundamental advances in the understanding of embryonic and adult stem cells.
- To accelerate biomedical exploitation and application of stem cells through collaboration with clinicians and bioindustry.
- To provide world-leading training in stem cell research at PhD and post-doctoral level
Our Research Groups
Over the past 5 years Cambridge University has invested in recruiting exceptional investigators in the stem cell research field from senior to junior level. The Centre’s research is led by nine group leaders with complementary interests in pluripotent and tissue stem cells. Their laboratories now comprise some 90 post-doctoral researchers and PhD students. In collaboration with our colleagues within the Cambridge Stem Cell Initiative we address the broad and complex challenges of stem cell biology in an integrated manner.
Our Facilities
The Centre provides the Cambridge Stem Cell Initiative with outstanding core facilities and specialist expertise in the areas of cell culture, flow cytometry, imaging, transgenesis and bioinformatics.
